"The DUFF" (MOVIE Review) !!!!! :) (PLUS GIVEAWAY!!)

Hey Everyone!!!

So I did something incredibly exciting a while ago...I got the amazing unbelievable opportunity to see an advanced screening of The DUFF, based on the novel of the same name by the equally amazing Kody Keplinger!!!

I've been a HUGE fan of Kody since early 2011, when I first read The DUFF, for the first time.  Since then, I've read it close to half a dozen times, and continue to love it each and every single time.

When I was contacted to help bring news on the movie and promote it, I was beyond stoked on life.  I can't even tell you how much I squealed!!

Anyway, before I was going to promote this movie, I of course, wanted to see it.  I was going to lie to my readers and promote something I either hadn't seen, or something I didn't even like!!!

But anyway, I saw it..and...I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

Holy moly, I can't even tell you how much I loved it!!

No joke, no way am I saying this to make the PR company happy, I honestly, and truly loved it!!

From IMDb:

A high school senior instigates a social pecking order revolution after finding out that she has been labeled the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her prettier more popular friends.

My Thoughts:

The movie features Kody's first choice as Bianca, the fabulous Mae Whitman, Robbie Amell as the sexy Wesley Rush, Bianca A. Santos and Skyler Samuels as Bianca's best friends Casey and Jessica, and then a new character to the movie, that wasn't featured in the book, Madison, played by the great Bella Thorne!

Now, while the movie was VERY different from the book, I can HONESTLY say I was not disappointed.  Kody, herself, put me at ease when she first explained some of the differences with the movie vs. her book, and how really really liked the turn out of the movie, even with the differences.  When an author is happy with their movie than I am happy.

But you know, while I truly love the book, I don't think the changed they made the movie were a bad thing.  The main subject was still featured in the movie...the most important subject of the whole book...THE MESSAGE!!

The whole point is bring out the truth that everyone feels like the "DUFF" (Designated, Ugly, Fat, Friend) at least in one point of their life or another.  I know I did!  I never felt like I fit in with my friends throughout my primary and secondary school years!!  NEVER!

Kody wrote a book that helped me realize I wasn't the only one in the world that felt that way.

The directors and screenwriters did a great job portraying the message in their own way!

This movie was fun, great story (even with the changes), and hilarious!! I laughed so much!! And so did the audience, many of whom, it was obvious, had not read the book!  I could tell by their reactions of shock when Bianca and Wesley finally kissed the first time.  I was like, "REALLY?!!"  "Why is that so shocking??!!  They Kiss ALL the time in the book, and MORE!"  But that was one of the changes to the story they made.  But a good change!  I mean, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the book, but on screen it could have portrayed wrong, and with the changes the point still came across in a cleaner, more general audience way.

Mae Whitman truly is Bianca!  She did such an amazing job bringing out B's sarcasm, attitude, and softness!  Amazing job Mae (if you ever read this! :))

Robbie was great as Wesley too! While I always imagined someone a bit more rugged, for some reason, Robbie really end up doing a good job of changing my mind on how I see Wesley!

Nick Eversman, who played Toby, was an interesting character, with his changes.  He didn't look like Toby Tucker from the book, but let's be honest here, no one wants to see that bowl-cut come alive on screen ;).  Great job Nick!!

So overall rating:

Amazing, great, hilarious, loved the story, and overall just a fun movie to see!! I would put in the category of the likes of movies such as Easy A.

Now before, I finish up here, I also wanted to share with you something awesome that happened AFTER the screening!!!

I got to meet some of the actors!!!!!

Robbie Amell (Wesley), Bianca A. Santos (Casey), Nick Eversman (Toby Tucker), and Bella Thorne (Madison) were all at the screening!!!!

Now sadly, I did not get to meet Bella Thorne afterwards, because she had a family emergency, but I did get to see her before!!

There is Robbie, Bella, Nick, and Bianca introducing the movie before the screening started!

And then afterwards, three of them stayed to sign and take pictures!!

Bianca, Robbie, Me, and Nick

I also got to meet a fellow blogger I've been in contact with online for a couple of years now!! Sara from What A Nerd Girl Says!  I was so happy to have spoken to her!! She's so much fun, and we hope to meet up in the future at other events!!

Sara, Bianca, Robbie, Me, Nick, and my mom :)
